Each top inlaid with an elaborate fan paterae and broad satinwood border with ribbon-tied husk garland and Classical urn decoration, over a fluted frieze with beaded edge; raised on ring-turned fluted tapering legs headed by sunflower heads.
Additional Information
The partnership of the London cabinetmakers John Mayhew and William Ince spanned from 1758 to 1812 and produced some of the finest examples of marquetry furniture in the Neo-classical taste. The firm’s collaboration with the architects Robert Adam and Sir William Chambers undoubtedly influenced their repertoire of classical motifs and graceful forms. In addition to the profuse decoration in contrasting timbers, signature Mayhew and Ince characteristics found in the present pair of tables include fine surface engraving and the incorporation of many different timbers.
