Illustrated- Additional InformationNagasaki, the technique of colorful shell inlay on a black lacquer ground, was produced under Dutch instruction in Nagasaki from the late eighteenth century. The colorful decoration of floral and bird motifs closely follow the conventional Nagasaki designs of the period.
