Description
In the manner of John Gee. Each with a horizontal pierced top rail centered by a painted grisaille panel depicting a female figure holding a cornucopia above a pierced arched splat, with downswept arms, caned seat, and seat rail with cornucopia decoration raised on turned tapered front legs. Painted simulated rosewood throughout.

A number of related chairs by John Gee are recorded in Christoper Gilbert's Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, 1996, figs. 380-384. Appointed jointly with Thomas Aycliff as "Turner in Ordinary to George III", he appears to have been a prolific maker of chairs until his retirement in 1823.
