Description

The Palladian broken arch pediment with dentil carved molding above a cushion form frieze finely carved with acorn leaves; the original (re-silvered) beveled mirror plate set below a deeply carved panel incorporating a lion’s head and swaged pelt; the egg and dart surround flanked by stop fluted and ring turned Corinthian columns. Formerly but not originally gilt; lacking carved element to cornice.

The Dublin based Booker family are best known for their very strictly Palladian mirrors which they produced from the mid-18th century and were inspired by the designs of William Jones published in his "The Gentlemen's or Builders Companion containing a variety of useful designs for doors, gateways, peers, pavilions, temples, chimney-pieces, slab tables, pier glasses or tabernacle frames, ceiling pieces etc," (1739).
