Description
The upper rectangular plate flanked by reeded columns headed by Corinthian capitals and set below a cavetto-molded cornice of reverse breakfront form over a tablet frieze with a pharaoh set between crocodiles, surmounted by swan’s neck pediments with flower head roundels centering a plume crest. The rectangular marble top inset to a deep frieze carved in low relief with ebonized hieroglyphs incorporating scarabs, falcons and scorpions supported by a bronzed winged sphinx inscribed “Chenu” with a mirror back-plate flanked by conforming columns, on a plinth base.
