Description
The Gothic arcaded backs filled with tracery centered by acorn bobbins, the quadripartite lower sections with ogee quatrefoils centered by cabochons, the arms of serpentine outline ending in beehive finials with railed arcaded splayed supports, the caned seats with broad chamfered frames with moulded edges, the outset square legs with rounded borders headed by pierced scrolled angle brackets joined by later H-shaped stretchers; originally with caned seats.

The chairs incorporate elements from contemporary published designs such a those of Robert Manwaring (P. Ward-Jackson, English Furniture Designs of the Eighteenth Century, 1958, figs. 172 & 173), but none include such authentically Chinese (rather than chinoiserie) feature as the curved railed arms of this pair.
